Job title: Principal consultant – technology and innovation
Leo leads the Technology business area at WRc. He is passionate about the role new technology has in industry to enable change. In this role Leo is responsible for WRc’s activities in the development, assessment and implementation of a wide range of treatment and monitoring technology within the water, waste and environmental sectors. This includes the WRc Approved™ fitness for purpose scheme, WRc’s role in the Environment Agencies MCERTS certification scheme for water monitoring and most recently leading WRc’s activities in Scotland on the Hydro Nation Water Innovation Service. Leo is also a Principal Consultant in the Instrumentation business area within WRc. He has a PhD in instrumentation for water quality monitoring with 20 years of wide-ranging experience in sensors and instrumentation for water, waste water and environmental applications. In addition, over the past five of years, Leo has worked with UK gas distribution networks on the transfer of technologies from the water sector. Specifically novel pipe lining and repair technologies. Leo is also a technical lead on WRc’s work in the smart networks area for UK water companies. Leo is a long standing director and past Chairman of the highly successful Sensors for Water Interest Group (SWIG) and Chairman of the UK Instrument User Group (IUG) which he set up in 2009. He also sits on a number of industrial advisory boards and has acted as an external PhD examiner.
