Company: Welsh Water
Job title: Customer relations team leader
Omolara joined Welsh Water in 2018 as part of the leadership graduate scheme, after spending a year working at Southern Water. Omolara entered the water industry without a background in STEM, and instead an interest in humanities and a degree in Religion and Theology. Since November 2021 Omolara has been managing the Customer Relations Team, who work closely with Welsh Water’s executive team and industry regulators to resolve complex customer concerns linked to billing, water and wastewater services. Omolara’ s main focus in Welsh Water is ensuring we interact with our customers and colleagues in a personal way, rather than rigidly sticking to process. This is supported by her current studies in counselling which she is completing in her own time. In line with her focus on mental health and safe spaces Omolara founded an internal race network. A network created to help normalise conversations around race and ensure there are safe spaces to discuss racism and allyship. Omolara has shared her own accounts of race in the UK in a range of formats. These include articles and webinars with The Institute of Water, focussed on amplifying black voices.
