Job title: Pro vice chancellor, research and innovation
Professor Tom Stephenson is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering (FREng) and currently Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Research and Innovation at Cranfield University. He leads relationships with research funders, including strategic partnerships with industry. Responsibilities for innovation encompass exploitation of intellectual property (IP), encouraging start-ups and business incubation through Cranfield Eagle Labs, a partnership with Barclays Bank. Professor Stephenson is Cranfield’s Executive Lead for Health and Safety, having initiated ISO45001 accreditation for all University operations. An active researcher in water and wastewater technologies, his current focus is on nitrogen and phosphorus removal and reuse, including nitrous oxide emissions. He is an author on over 200 academic journal and conference papers. Other activities include membership of the Lee Kuan Yew Singapore International Water Prize jury and Chairman of Water Innovate, a University spinout he set up with colleagues at Cranfield and now owned by Bluewater Bio Ltd.
